1. Why Use A Blog

These blogs appear to offer the following advantages:

  1. Easy -- They are easy to update. It's almost like composing an email, except you click a "publish" button instead of the usual "send" button. You can re-edit it as many times as necessary.

This makes them a good choice for someone who just needs create a simple web page, without having to learn how to use a bunch of new software.

  2. Access -- You can give multiple people access to the blog, so they can each update their own events.

  3. Affordable -- The blog itself is presently free.

  4. All Platforms -- The Google blogs work with both Macintosh and Windows. You can also create free web pages with many other providers. But some, like Yahoo for example, do not work with Macintosh, which make them less useful to me as a Macintosh user.

Why We Use Google Blogs:

We're using BlogSpot.com (aka blogger.com) , which is operated by Google.com. This blog appears to be one of the more frequently used and neater-looking of the blogs.

Limitations Of Blogs

Blogs are really intended to be an online journal, so you're pretty much restricted to one page, and you have to follow the format in which the blog is set up. In other words, you don't have the freedom to add multiple pages and rearrange things as much as you would with a 'real' webpage.

2. Forwarding Domain Name Makes It Easy To Find

We can use a forwarding domain name as the "published name" -- for example, "WilliamsportBallroom.com", -- which costs us about $9/year. This makes the name easier to remember than the real location at "WilliamsportBallroom.blogspot.com"

This gives us the flexibility to change the actual location in the future, without changing the "published" name.
