2. To Browse Messages

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cpamu

The above link takes you to the LIstserver's home page on Yahoo Groups, where you can browse all previous announcements

NOTE: You currently need a Yahoo ID and password to join and sign in to view the messages (or a Yahoo ID linked inside Yahoo with your main email address). This is done to hinder SPAMMERS from viewing any email addresses quoted in the messages.

3. To Post A Message

mailto:cpamu@yahoogroups.com

Note you have to be a member to post a message to the Listserver.

Note also when you post (send) a message to the Listserver, your message is broadcoast to ALL subscribers -- (similar to how a radio station broadcasts audio messages) so be careful what you say.

4. Avoid Off-Topic Posts

From: David Wojtowicz <dtw@xxx.xxx>

Subject: [cpamu] Concerns about the CPAMU listserv....

Dear Macintosh-Friends,

.. . please keep in mind this listserv has been established for "Macintosh" related topics. Therefore, I would urge that we refrain from off topic, non related to Macintosh computer postings. It is not that these matters of life are not important; they are. But they may not be shared by others who subscribe to the CPAMU for the sole main purpose of gathering information of Macintosh related value only.

I have seen these types of postings unintentionally become divisive on other Listservs. As such, please... lets keep our postings limited to Macintosh related items only. .. .

Subject: [cpamu] State of the CPAMUnion

Greetings!

<snip>
I hope you all feel free to use
this list to post any questions or discoveries. Here's some quick
pointers:

1) Compose the message to cpamu@yahoogroups.com
2) Keep it about the Mac.

That's it. Have fun with the list. It usually isn't too noisy.
However, you can have all messages identified with the [CPAMU]
subject filtered to a folder. If you don't know how to do this, let
the list know. It might be a good subject for a meeting.

This message largely serves two Mac User Groups, DAPI {Danville Apple PI} in Danville and
SMUG {Susquehanna Mac Users Group} in Williamsport. If the subject of your message is specifically
for one of these, please add [DAPI] or [SMUG] to the message. That
said, please tell Mac using friends about the list. CPAMU stands for
Central PA Macintosh Users and as such everyone is welcome.
<snip>

Enjoy!

5. Keeping Spammers Out

From: "Benjamin Rinehart" <appletag@xxx>
Date: Tue, 21 Sep 2004 17:47:01 -0000
Subject: [cpamu] New Policies for CPAMU

Anticipating more SPAM to the list I have changed two aspects of
management:

1: Membership is upon approval. I approve all memberships before
they're allowed to post.

2: New members are moderated. This means I approve all posts from new
members.

This should keep idiots from spamming. I also suspect a couple people
will fall off the list. I think there's a couple "leaches" hanging on
waiting to SPAM us.

If this causes problems for anyone, please let me know!

WEB PAGES: http://www.cpamu.com

====================================

== A. INTRODUCTION

====================================

WELCOME to the "Central Pa Mac Users" [cpamu] at Yahoo! Groups.

This text file is being AUTOMATICALLY sent to you by the Yahoo eGroup "Listserver" because you have joined -- or we have added your name -- to the group "Central Pa Mac Users"

------------------------------------------

PURPOSE -- This group is a discussion list for Central Pa Macintosh users. We also use it to send MEETING ANNOUNCEMENTS for Mac user groups in Danville (Danville Apple Pi) and Williamsport (Susquehanna Mac Users).

------------------------------------------

IDENTIFICATION -- Announcements will be identified by the

"subject tag" of "[cpamu]"

at the beginning of the subject line.

====================================

== B. UNSUBSCRIBING

====================================

You can UNSUBSCRIBE from this group any time you no longer want to receive these announcements.

You simply send a blank email (blank means no subject, no body)

to the "unsubscribe address" (cpamu-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com),

then reply to the "request for confirmation of unsubscription" message

that Yahoo will send you.

This "unsubscribe address" is in the "footer" (bottom) of every announcement.

====================================

== C. RE-SUBSCRIBING

====================================

Note when you CHANGE your email address,

you need to "re-subscribe" your new address,

if you want to continue getting announcements.

You simply send a blank email (blank means no subject, no body)

from your NEW email address,

to the "subscribe address" (cpamu-subscribe@yahoogroups.com),

then reply to the "request for confirmation of subscription" message

that Yahoo will send you.

Note this "subscribe" process is also outlined on the Cpamu "Listserver" page at

http://www.track2.com/mac/listserver.cpamu.shtml .

------------------------------------------

MULTIPLE GROUPS -- Note that if you belong to multiple Yahoo groups and you change your email address,

you can get a Yahoo ID --

then change the address ONCE in your Yahoo "Profile" --

and Yahoo will update your address in ALL Listservers you are subscribed to.

====================================

== D. LISTSERVER POSTING GUIDELINES

====================================

DISCUSSION -- This group is set up to operate in "discussion mode",

which means ALL members have "posting privileges" to send comments or announcements.

You simply send your messages to the Listserver's "posting address" (cpamu@yahoogroups.com).

This posting address will also be in the footer (bottom) of all Listserver messages.

------------------------------------------

SUBJECT LIMITATIONS -- When you send a message to the Listserver, EVERY subscriber gets a copy of that message, so you have to be careful what you say.

This Listserver has been established for "Macintosh" related topics. Please refrain from off topic, non related to Macintosh computer postings.

====================================

== E. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

====================================

HELP -- Additional information on how these Yahoo Listservers operate

is on the "Listserver Help" web page at

http://www.track2.com/trk2/help.listservers.shtml .

LISTSERVER DEFINITION -- A Listserver functions sort of like a radio station for email. Whenever it receives an email announcement from a person with "posting privileges", it then "broadcasts" that announcement to all subscribers. People can "subscribe" or "unsubscribe" themselves from the Listserver, similar to the way people can "turn on" or "turn off" their radio.

ADVERTISEMENTS -- Most messages sent via the Listserver, will contain a Yahoo-inserted advertisement. The [cpamu] owner does not in any way endorse nor control these ads. Yahoo inserts these ads to raise revenue, in order that we can use this Listserver free of charge.

ADDITIONAL MAC USER GROUP INFO -- Additional information about Macintosh User Groups in the Central Pa region is available on the "Track2 MacNet" at

http://www.track2.com/mac/usergroups.shtml

====================================

== F. ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS

====================================

Any additional questions about how this Listserver operates that are not answered by this message,

please email me a telephone number where I can call you, and I will try to answer any questions you may have.

(I do NOT like trying to conduct discussions by typing back-and-forth emails.)
